Four new parks to come up in Dubai

DUBAI - Dubai Municipality will open four new neighbourhood parks and start landscaping works in a number of streets and areas of the emirate as part of a wide range of activities lined up by the civic body to celebrate the Afforestation Week, to be observed throughout the country from this Saturday.

Qassim Sultan, Director-General of the Municipality, along with Jassim Darwish, Secretary General of the UAE Municipalities, and senior officials of the civic body, special invitees and members of the public, will attend the opening of Al Towar (3) Neighbourhood Park on Sunday.

The park hosts several activities on the occasion including a 'plants exhibition', handicrafts market, kite-flying zone, tug-of-war contest and various other amusement and recreational games. Mr Sultan and the guests will tour facilities of the park including the games area, which includes playing grounds for basketball, football, volleyball, skateboard track, and family games area. Those who have contributed to the emirate's greenery drive will be honoured during the ceremony.

Mr Sultan and the officials will then head to the Al Qusais Lagoon Park site where they will plant the first sapling, heralding the beginning of works of the project. On Monday, Mohammed AbdulKarim Julfar, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for Financial and Properties Affairs will inaugurate a landscaping project at Interchange 4 on the Shaikh Zayed Road. On the same day, Abdullah Rafeeu, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for Environment and Public Health Affairs, will open Al Safa (2) Neighbourhood Park and Abdullah AbdulRahman Al Shaibani, Assistant Director General for Technical Services, will inaugurate landscaping works at Abu Kadra Interchange.

On Tuesday, Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Assistant Director General for Roads and General Projects Affairs, will open Al Garhoud Neighbourhood Park while Hussein Nasser Lootah, Assistant Director General for Planning and Building Affairs, will open landscaping works at Al Safouh Road. On the same day, Obeid Salim Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General for Administrative and General Services Affairs, will open the Hatta Hill Park.

Meanwhile, the Horticulture Section has organised several activities as part of the week including workshops for students. There are also special workshops for women at the Children's City in flower arrangement and attending of home plants.
