Four more planeloads of aid sent to Beirut

ABU DHABI — The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) despatched another four plane-loads of relief material to Beirut.

The humanitarian gesture has been initiated in accordance the directives of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister.

With this latest cargo, the UAE has now sent a total of eight special relief planes with more than 230 tonnes of relief material to Lebanon.

The latest consignment included medicines and foodstuff. RCS Secretary-General Saleh Al Mulla said that the UAE Embassy in Lebanon would receive the relief material and distribute it through local government offices and the Lebanese RC.

Meanwhile, an extra-ordinary meeting of of the UAE RCS was held in Damascus yesterday. The meeting discussed ways to coordinate relief efforts of various regional Arab charity organisations to step up relief supplies for the Lebanese people.
