Four people, including a police driver, were arrested for fooling a man and trying to sell a 'genie in a bottle'.
The incident occurred in Burdwan, Kolkata, when a resident named Tapas Roy Choudhury received a call from a friend who told him about a 'ghost' that would follow all his orders and turn all his wishes into reality.
Choudhury was allured by the fraudsters and believed their claim that a 'genie' was available for sale. Both Choudhury and his friend took an appointment with the seller and went down to Burdwan to seal the deal.
When they reached the decided destination, four people escorted them up to a hotel room and showed them a small bottle with one rupee coin in it and said the ghost was inside it.
However, the four fraudsters took all the cash from Choudhury and his friend and locked them up in the hotel room after Choudhury said he had no money to buy the 'genie'.
According to Mid-Day, police said Choudhury was able to contact another friend who in turn informed the police and the four were arrested. It was later revealed that one of the four criminals is a police driver and they collective demanded Rs1 million (approximately Dh5,750) for the 'genie'.
