The Foundation Programme was designed for 12th Grade students who graduated between 2005 and 2007, but were not offered a place in a university or college. The Foundation Programmes are offered in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region.

The supply of laptops to students is linked to strict terms. Students will be able to take the laptop on to the next level of their education if they complete the programme and reach the required standard for entry into one of the higher education institutions.

Students who do not complete their studies will have to return their laptops to the council.

The Director-General of ADEC, Mubarak Al Shamsi, said, “We are confident that the Foundation Programme will help to improve the performance of students in English and IT. We are keen to support their efforts in all possible ways.”

The council has employed an independent monitoring agency to evaluate the quality of the programmes offered to the students.

ELS (English Language Service) has already made one of five formal visits to each site and reports are very positive about the quality of teaching and the dedication of the students.

Al Shamsi added, “The national students who passed Grade 12 but haven’t received higher education offers have been given a second chance. I believe they will rise to the challenge and prove that they can achieve the required standards.”
