Forum on empowering women begins today

AJMAN— Umm Al Momeneen Women Association (UMWA) of Ajman will hold its sixth forum titled “A girl: Empowerment and Pioneering” at its premises today. The forum is being conducted under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman.

The two-day event to be inaugurated by Shaikh Humaid Al Nuaimi, aims at enhancing the role of the family, education and social foundation in society and to empower the girl to participate actively in the development process.

Addressing a Press conference yesterday, Dr Aman Khalifah, Director of Humaid bin Rashid Foundation for Human Development and Member of UMWA Board Council stressed that the forum is organised as part of UMWA's efforts to develop the role of women in society. Since it was established in 1974, UMWA has achieved its goals in terms of development of women through previously held forums and conference.

She added that this forum would cover several topics including, “Girl and family upbringing”, “Girl and the visions of electronic communication”, “Girl and her participation in social development” and “Girl: Future vision.”

The forum will be attended by a large number of specialists in the field of Psychology from Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE. Several workshops on social issues will also be organised along the sidelines of the conference.

Fatima Al Matroushi, Director of UMWA said the forum will feature two sessions each on the first and second day. The Association will also organise workshops for around 80 girls from universities and high schools.
