The concluding day of the forum on alternative medicine organised by the Dubai Women's Development Association (DWDA), in coordination with the Medical Zone in Dubai.

The two-day event was sponsored by Belhoul Apollo hospitals. It was aimed at increasing women's awareness on health issues and highlighting the advantages of alternative medicines.


Delivering the first lecture on bioresonance therapy (BRT), Dr Essa Salem, Bioresonance Therapy Consultant at Rashid Hospital, explained the nature of such therapy, saying that BRT model helps the electromagnetic system of the body return to its vital and natural status.

The therapy stimulates the self-healing powers of the body and strengthens the body's defences without side-effects, he said.

He said that the result of the BRT scanning can be used to correct imbalance in the body's energy as the process enhances regulation of the body which raises the immune system ultimately improving the health.

Prof (Dr) Song Zheng Lian from the Chinese Medical Centre spoke about acupuncture therapy, highlighting the history of the acupuncture, a 5,000-year-old Chinese art.

She spoke about this method's power to promote and maintain good health, adding that this form of treatment has become very popular in the UAE and the Arab world.

Speaking of common health problems in UAE, Dr Lian said that she has found problems as rheumatism and backache and obesity to be rampant in the region, attributing this to the weather, excessive use of air-conditioners and improper sitting postures.

Dr Salha Mohammed, also from the Chinese Medical Centre, enumerated the cases and conditions treated by the acupuncture methods such as rheumatism, arthritis, diabetes, asthma and heart diseases.

Dr Ahmed Dousouki, from Bellal Centre, delivered a lecture on chiropractic therapy. He said that the nature of this type of treatment was just self-healing and self-regulating.

"This form of the therapy has succeeded in treating many illnesses effectively such as headaches, ulcers and ear infection," he added.

A lecture on Neuro Emotional Integeration (NEI) was introduced by Tarek Al Ghais, NEI consultant at Rashid Hospital. He said that the NEI can be used to treat any form of psychic and psychosomatic complaints and emotional problems such as stress, nervousness, phobias and insomnia. "It has proved very effective in the treatment of chronic illnesses," Mr Al Ghais added.
