A weatherman at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said visibility was down to 100 metres at the Abu Dhabi airport at around 9.30am. The fog in and around the capital at night was caused by low wind speed, humidity and low temperature, the weatherman added. Speaking to Khaleej Times, Mohammed A. Al Bulooki, director of Marketing and Communications at the Abu Dhabi Airport Company (ADAC) said, “A total of five flights were diverted to Al Ain International Airport and six were delayed but the passengers were accommodated at other flights within two hours.”

Meanwhile, 19 outbound flights of Etihad Airways were delayed by more than an hour and 12 inbound flights of the same carrier were temporarily diverted to Al Ain before flying to Abu Dhabi, said Thomas Clark, spokesman of Etihad Airways. Clark said the flight schedules returned to normal by yesterday evening.

Clark added, “Three return flights to Muscat, Bahrain and Karachi were cancelled yesterday morning because of bad weather and low visibility. But the passengers were accommodated, with their tickets re-booked for later flights.” Among the flights cancelled yesterday were inbound flights from Karachi to Abu Dhabi of Etihad Airways flight number EY226, another from Islamabad to Abu Dhabi of Etihad Airways’ flight number EY232 and the third flight from Muscat to Abu Dhabi of Kuwait Airways’ (flight number KU678).
