Five Asians were killed instantly and six suffered moderate to serious injuries when a minibus transporting workers of a company veered off the Dibba-Al Taween road and fell into a pit in Al Meea valley on Thursday morning.
According to the Civil Defence, a tyre burst caused the accident.
The injured were admitted to Dibba Fujairah Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased are kept in the hospital’s morgue.
Colonel Suliman Abdullah Al Shujaa, head of the Civil Defence Centres Section in Dibba Fujairah, said personnel from Al Taween Civil Defence Station, police patrols and ambulances rushed to the scene, but the five men had already died. Six others sustained moderate to serious injuries, he said.
He identified the victims as Asians, but did not mention the nationalities.
First Lieutenant Rashid Ahmed Al Yamahi, Director of the Al Taween Civil Defence Station, said the personnel had to use hydraulic cutters to cut open the mangled bus to extricate two bodies.
A tyre burst caused the minibus to veer off the road as the driver lost control of the vehicle, which fell into the pit, he added.
