The building housed 22 furniture shops and 12 residential apartments. Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) rushed to the spot, but had to seek help from both Sharjah and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence to control the fire, after about four hours.

Colonel Rashed Thani Al Matroushi, Director, DCD, said in a statement here that the building went up in flames around 00.12am yesterday. “The DCD, in collaboration with other forces from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, was able to control the fire in four hours despite the stocks piled up in the building becoming a hindrance. I call upon all residents in Dubai buildings to take proper safety measurements in apartments and buildings. Shopkeepers should stock their goods in an organised manner so as to leave the way open in case of an accident like this,” Col Al Matroushi said.u
