The Dubai Civil Defense, in cooperation with ENOC, has conducted a joint fire frill at fuel talks in Jebel Ali.

The drill was conducted at oil warehouses in Jebel Ali to see the level of preparedness of staff, brief them about facing a fire emergency and determine future plans of action.

After evaluating the drill, Major Abdul Rahaman Abdul Noor, director of Civil Defense at Jebel Ali, said, "Evacuation drills are every important to enhance the capabilities of all parties in order to face disasters and crisis as it was necessary to put a plan during the emergency so fast and to try to save people life and properties and also to reduce the time of responding."

He said that fire at petroleum facilities needs high standard of readiness, fast response and a plan that suits the situation, and this needs coordination between safety departments at various departments at petroleum companies.

He said this drill, executed with ENOC, is part of the cooperation which was going on for years.

The drill scenario

A fire erupted due to gasoline leakage when fuel was being transported from one tank to another. The leak cause a build-up of clouds of gases, which would ignite and explode, resulting in injuries to nearby workers.

First the supply was stopped to prevent further fuel leakage. Then the responding team put out fire using foam. However, the fire continued and fire engines from Jebel Ali defence station intervened.
