Filipina on Trial for Forging Parking Ticket

DUBAI - A 32-year-old Filipina stood trial on Thursday in the Criminal Court of First Instance for forging a parking ticket issued by the Road and Transport Authority (RTA).

The defendant, who works in a restaurant, is accused of changing the details on a parking ticket and using the forged ticket.

A security staff stated that on May 19 last year he was on duty supervising the parking lots area of the RTA on Al Maktoum Street.

He said that he went to check on the parking tickets posted on each car, as the employee in charge was not there.

As he approached the defendant’s car he noticed there was a difference in the amount paid between the Arabic and English on the same ticket.

While the Arabic ticket read Dh1 the one in English showed that Dh8 was paid for the ticket.

He immediately called the police. When confronted the suspect alleged that an Indian man bought the ticket for her.

The woman allegedly also forged and extended the time of leaving. The next hearing is scheduled for March 12.

Police Probe Fatal Accident

DUBAI - An investigating into an accident involving a bus and a car that claimed the lives of two Asians on Wednesday morning, on the Al Ain- Dubai road in being investigated.

Mohammed Hassan Abdelrahim, Assistant Traffic Chief Prosecutor, said a car driven by an Omani woman swerved and ran into the bus carrying 14 passengers. The bus driver lost control, went out of the road and hit a parked car.

Two of the bus passengers died on the spot while another was seriously injured. The rest of the passengers sustained minor and medium injuries.

Abdelrahim said that the Traffic Prosecution was taking statements from witnesses to draw up a detailed report.

The Assistant Traffic Chief Prosecutor advised motorists to be cautious when changing lanes on highways.

Australian on Trial

DUBAI - An Australian man went on trial on Thursday in the Criminal Court of First Instance for having illicit consensual sex with a prostitute.

The 34-year-old employee is accused of having sex with the woman in his apartment in Al Barsha on October 3 last year.

The woman, 37, from Nigeria and on a visit visa, is also on trial on the charge of engaging in prostitution.

Both the defendants admitted during interrogation by the Public Prosecution to having sex for Dh500. The next hearing is on March 9.
