Dr Husniya Qarqash, consultant gynaecologist and Director of the Dubai Fertility and Gynacology Centre, mentioned several new and advanced services that will be introduced. They include the use of laproscopic surgery to treat poly cystic ovarian disease and other conditions that affect a woman's fertility.

Laproscopic surgery will also be used to treat congenital deformaties of the womb, a procedure which will be carried out for the first time in the UAE. Highly-advanced machines used to detect the gender of the foetus and any congenital deformaties in early days of pregnancy, have also been ordered from abroad.

Dr Qarqash said the centre plans to introduce screening tests for the early detection of genetic and heriditary diseases before pregnancy.

She stressed that the Dohms administration is keen on improving the centre's facilities and the services by following up on the latest advances in medical science and making sure all Dohms medical centres keep up with these developments and put to use.

Dr Qarqash also pointed to the large number of patients seeking the services of the centre.

Speaking on the expansion and construction work planned at the centre, Dr Qarqash said that construction is expected to start by the end of this year and will include the expansion of the present building and the construction of operating theatres which will be provided with the most advanced medical equipment.

Work will also include the construction of a new section that will be big enough for 10 beds where patients can rest after surgery before going home.

The existing building will be divided into patient care rooms for females and two consultation rooms. The centre also plans to hire additional qualified doctors and nurses.

A dedicated store room will be constructed that will track the flow of medicines and medical equipment efficiently.

Dr Qarqash stressed the importance of the expanssion project which will allow more people to benefit from the services, pointing to the great increase in the number of patients from all corners of the globe who are seeking treatment at the centre.

She also pointed to the great success the centre has seen in treating cases of infertility in both men and women. The centre has experienced a success rate of 28 per cent with embryos fertilised outside the womb and implanted back into the womb (test tube procedure).
