Expressionism is a term that is used to describe a movement in fine arts that emphasises the expression of the inner experience of the artist, according to Bartev, who described his art as contemporary expressionism.

Bartev, who is of Armenian origin, was born in Lebanon.

The ongoing exhibition showcases 17 expressions that have all been painted on canvas.

Among the several paintings on display include Horses of Fantasy, Horses of Fire, Horses of Heaven, The Bull Ride, and Colours on the Move among others.

Bartev says he accomplishes his aim through distortion, exaggeration, primitivism and fantasy and through the vivid, jarring, violent or dynamic application of formal elements.

By the age of eight, he amazed his tutors with his portraiture and by 12, he had sold his first paintings.

He pursued his art education in France at two internationally acclaimed schools and received bachelor's and master's degrees in fine art majoring in interior design and painting.

Bartev feels that life is a succession of events in expressions of colour and motion.

His paintings vibrantly come to life as they capture the intensity and spontaneity of the dynamic forces that rule both nature and the cosmos.
