Expired chips sold at Eppco station

AJMAN — Chips past their expiry date were allegedly being sold to children in an Eppco gas station in Ajman. An Eppco customer says he discovered the expiry date of the chips only after his children had already consumed them. After the customer complained to the gas station, they removed the packets from the shelves.

The customer, Suhail Al Kutabi, feels that probably the Ajman municipality targeted only the smaller outlets and cafeterias, while the bigger outlets and supermarkets generally escaped their notice because they don’t expect them to violate the laws.

Meanwhile, Dr Mohammed Attia, Head of the Health Section of Ajman Municipality, said the civic body had not received any complaint from any consumer regarding such chips. “There is a 24-hour Emergency Services Section with staff available throughout the day to receive complaints from public over the phone on 06-7437030. Once a complaint is received, the duty inspectors will immediately proceed to investigate the case and warn or fine the violator and confiscate the product,” he said.
