A Filipino national, who works as a delivery man for a restaurant on Shaikh Zayed Road, Konkai has been given a month's 'deadline' to vacate the bed space he shares in a building.

"I am paying only Dh600 for the bed space. My work place is just a few minutes walk from my room. A bed space in any other part of Dubai will cost not less than Dh800. And my monthly salary is just Dh1,400. I really don’t know what to do now," said the worried man.

Sanjeeva Dharmasena, a Sri Lankan who recently moved out of the area, lamented, "I had been living in Satwa for four years paying only Dh550 as monthly rent for a bed space. After moving out, I have got a bed space for the same rate in the Hor Al Anz area. But, this is very far from my work place and I am finding it very difficult to save money. I am now thinking of going hom ," he said. Families too are in distress. "It was an easy living in Satwa. At the same time, even if this project was not there, we had to move as the municipality allows only one family to live in a villa.," said a dejected R. K. Sarath, who works with a bank.
