Gilani was driving his car on way to a corner meeting organised for his brother Abdul Qadir Gilani in Multan’s suburbs when some armed men fired at his car. His guard was killed while Ali Haider was kidnapped by the attackers, Abdul Qadir told reporters. Five more people were injured as a result of firing by assailants.

A furious Qadir complained that no security was provided to him or his brothers.

Police said Ali Haider was taken by kidnappers in a black Honda City. They came on motorcycles and had the car with them. Entry and exit points of the city have been sealed off.

The second brother of Ali Haider, Ali Musa Gilani who is also contesting election warned in utter rage and virtually crying: “We will not let elections take place in Multan if our brother is not recovered.”
