This step, taken by its Environmental Protection Division (EPD), is part of the ERWDA's mission to preserve and protect the environment and its goal of achieving sustainable development.

It also implements Federal Law No. 23 and 24 for 1999 and its by-laws regarding environmental protection and development.

Permits have also been issued, after directing them from the concerned parties such as the Industrial City in Abu Dhabi and the municipalities, to ensure that these existing and new projects do not damage the environment while conducting their different activities.

ERWDA recently made it mandatory for companies who deal with chemicals, hazardous, radioactive materials and wastes to obtain the environmental permits.
