Emirati killed in RAK accident

RAS AL KHAIMAH — A 32-year-old Emirati man, identified only as M.A., instantly died on Saturday in a traffic accident in the Awafi area of Ras Al Khaimah. His relative, the 36-year-old driver of the car, M.E., sustained several minor injuries.

According to a police source, the four-wheel-drive vehicle both men were travelling in fell into a deep hole known as ‘Gass’ where sand is excavated for use in construction works.

Investigations are on to identify the reasons behind the accident. The injured has been admitted to the Saqr Hospital while the body of the deceased was moved to the morgue.

Recent statistics from the RAK Traffic and Patrol Department showed that 129 Emiratis died in traffic accidents on the roads of the emirate in the last five years. These represent 36 per cent of the 362 road deaths registered over the period from 2007 to 2011.
