Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) secretary-general Tayeb Al Rais said the generous donation was given by Emirati business couple Obaid Mohammed Al Helw and his wife.

“Al Helw donated Dh3 million...for the benefit of the AMAF Family village, the first of its kind in the country to be thoroughly built for the orphans who have no one to take care of them.”

The generous wife, who also chairs the Baraha Quran Study Centre, wished her donation be specified for the Eid Al Dha sacrificed animals, known as Adahi, also for the benefit of the needy, poor and orphans.

Al Rais said the pioneering project, the only government entity looking after orphans in Dubai, seeks to offer a healthy, safe and secure home for orphans in Dubai providing them with health and nutrition.

“The Village, to accommodate up to 100 orphaned children in Dubai, shall be a real home that provides a psychologically stable family environment, full time ‘mothers’, and a community living atmosphere.”

Each house is a bonded family unit with siblings, a mother and necessary amenities as well as “aunties who are helpers and a part of children’s lives and a grandmother who will oversee the day to day running of the village,” he added.

Al Rais said the Village will contain 12 villas accommodating up to 8 children each. “The Village will also have a fully equipped nursery for babies up to three years of age, a kindergarten, a medical facility run by a resident nurse, and an administration block for the day-to-day running of the village, recreational area for the children.”

Al Rais said the Village offers the orphaned children in Dubai - regardless of their parentage - an opportunity to grow up in a happy and loving home and contribute to their community with confidence.

“The work we are doing for our orphaned children will show the community of the UAE, Gulf and internationally that in Dubai, we really care about our orphaned kids.”

Al Raise encouraged other donations. “Donors who share our vision are welcome to participate in the AMAF Orphanage project. Let’s provide these children with opportunity to reach their full potential as citizens of our UAE community.”
