ABU DHABI - Eid Al Adha prayers were performed on Sunday across the UAE, with religious leaders and Imams stressing the merits and the essence of the festival of sacrifice.
While urging the faithful to reflect on the example set centuries ago by Prophet Ibrahim when he offered to sacrifice his son, Ismail, at the command of Allah, the religious leaders also emphasised the values of tolerance, mercy and benevolence which Islam has instructed.
They prayed to Allah to protect the UAE and its leaders, the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and Their Highnesses, Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the emirates.
Attending the prayers were Rulers of the emirates and their Crown Princes, Shaikhs, ministers, senior government officials and large number of people.
Shaikh Zayed received here on Sunday at Al Bahr Palace well wishers who had come to greet him on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.
Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, was also present. The well-wishers were led by General Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Minister of Defence.
In Dubai, His Highness Shaikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received on Sunday well-wishers who had come to greet him on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.
General Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Minister of Defence, was present. The well-wishers included Shaikhs, ministers, senior officials, dignitaries, diplomats and UAE nationals.
In Dubai, Shaikh Maktoum offered prayers at the Grand Eid Mussalla. Also offering prayers alongside Shaikh Maktoum were General Shaikh Mohammed in addition to other Shaikhs and dignitaries.
In Abu Dhabi, Shaikh Khalifa offered prayers at Sultan bin Zayed I Mosque in Al Bateen. Also offering prayers were, Lt-Gen. Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces; Shaikh Surour bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chamberlain of the Presidential Court; Shaikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Seaports Department; Shaikh Isa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Under-Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Public Works Department; Major-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Under-Secretary of the Interior Ministry; Brigadier Shaikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Commander of the Amiri Guard; Shaikh Nasser bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Shaikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Under-Secretary for the Ministry of Finance and Industry, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Works; Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Director-General of the President's Office; Shaikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Economic Department; Shaikh Dhiyab bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Director of the Presidential Court; Shaikh Omar bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President's Aide-de-camp; Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court; a number of Shaikhs, ministers, senior UAE officials and members of the diplomatic corps from Arab and Islamic countries.
His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, joined a large number of people to offer the Eid prayers at the New Badieh Mussalla. In Ras Al Khaimah, His Highness Shaikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, offered prayers at the Grand Eid Mussalla.
