Eid and Ramadan fest inaugurated

ABU DHABI — The annual Eid and Ramadan festival, jointly organised by the General Exhibition Corporation and Red Crescent Authority, represents the utmost image of solidarity and the civilised and humanitarian nature of the people of UAE in the urgent humanitarian issues, said Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and President of UAE Red Crescent.

Shaikh Hamdan made the remark on the occasion of the formal inauguration of the eight edition of Eid and Ramadan Festival at the GEC on Monday evening. Dignitaries from different walks of life including a number of RED Crescent officials and envoys of various countries were also present during the grand ceremony.

"UAE plays a significant role in improving the life situation of the needy and distressed and support the peace initiatives and agreements that provide protection and security for the victims of disputes and disasters in tandem with the policy of the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan," he added.

Lauding the efforts of Red Crescent, Shaikh Hamdan affirmed that RC has occupied a significant position in the humanitarian arena and is considered as one of the pioneering actors in the humanitarian services worldwide.

The event was also significant by the presence of a number of noted philanthropists and public and private organisations who made generous donations to the humanitarian cause taken up by the Red Crescent.

According to Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, Chairman, Board of Directors, RCA, the revenue generated from the festival will be allocated for supporting the poor families and supporting the RC's local programmes and activities.

Her Highness Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the President’s Wife and President of the UAE General Women’s Union, said that the Ramadan and Eid Festival is a practical example of enhancing interaction among all the peoples of this country, including the UAE nationals and expatriates, by reaching out to the less unfortunate needy people in the society.

Shaikha Fatima, who is also the Honorary Chairperson of the RCA, said that doing good has become an integral part of the behaviour and conduct of the UAE citizens following the footstep of the President and the country's ancestral heritage.
