ABU DHABI — Prominent Egyptian intellectuals have expressed their deep admiration for the culture of tolerance prevailing in the UAE under the leadership of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Participating in a symposium on “Copts in the Media”, organised by the Maet Centre for Human Rights and Constitutional Studies in Cairo recently, they appreciated the opportunity given to the Christian communities to set up churches and perform rituals in the UAE.
The intellectuals hailed the role played by the Centre for Information Affairs in promoting communication and spreading tolerance, through its events and activities like hosting a number of Christian leaders around the world and organising the symposium on “Khalifa and the Culture of Tolerance”.
At the closing session of the symposium, the participants recommended the establishment of centres for promoting the culture of tolerance, supporting human rights organisations and training young journalists to treat issues in an objective manner.
