The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has stepped up efforts to promote awareness about child rights and protection.
The department, on Monday, organised a workshop titled: "The system of protecting the rights of children under the UAE law", to promote legal awareness about children's rights among the public, and to protect them from abuse and exploitation.
The workshop also coincided with the announcement of a new publication - The Rights of Children: A Comparative Study - which is the first of its kind in the country.
During the workshop, Dr Rida Ali Khamakhim, advisor to the UAE legislators, cited some of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Child's Rights Law, including the right to life and security, the right to be given a name that doesn't demean them of harm their dignity and the child must be registered in the national registry after birth.
"The law tells parents or guardians to provide all requirements of family safety for children," explained Khamakhim.
"Children also have the right to be raised in an environment that encourages them to adhere to their faith, right to education, right to healthcare and protection from being abandoned.
"The law bans child labour and also safeguards children from negligence, sexual abuse and being homeless."
He said that according to the law, convicted sex offenders are not allowed to work in any job that allows them to interact directly with children.
The official called on the public to adhere to the law and to report all those violating the law by abusing or neglecting their children.
