Education zones will decide school fee hike

DUBAI — A new order issued by the Minister of Education, Dr Hanif Hassan, empowers the education governing bodies across the country to fix the tuition fees of private schools.

However, the fee hike, if any, must conform to the rules and standards earmarked by Ministry of Education (MoE). Also, the fee hike has to be approved by the MoE. The departments concerned at the ministry will soon announce the details of the ministerial decision.

The order gives the education zones broad powers to decide on the fees, which were delegated, in the past, to other departments at the MoE.

Earlier, the Dubai Education Council and Abu Dhabi Education Council were authorised to approve fee hike by private schools.

The new decision empowers all education zones in the country to sanction the hike and scrutinise applications submitted by the schools in this regard.
