Education top priority

DUBAI — His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has said that the new cabinet was according paramount attention to improving the quality of education.

“Upgrading of education is a top priority for us,” Shaikh Mohammed said during a visit to some schools in Fujairah as part of a field tour aimed at getting a first-hand assessment of the needs of educational institutions in the emirate.

He directed the education minister to adopt a set of measures intended to improve the learning environment in the emirate’s schools. These measures included provision of permanent classrooms, computer laboratories and modern facilities.

He also called for giving teachers priority in benefiting from the loans of Zayed Housing Programme.

Shaikh Mohammed also inspected the under-construction 75-bed maternity ward at the Fujairah Central Hospital.

He instructed Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, to fit the ward with the most advanced medical equipment to enable it better serve citizens of the area.

Shaikh Mohammed also gave orders to the authorities concerned to build a club in the Marbah area to serve girls and women in Fujairah city and its surroundings. He urged Shaikh Hamdan to start executing the cultural project within a month in order to provide women with all amenities to practice their activities and hobbies for the betterment of the family and society.

Shaikh Mohammed met a number of Marbah citizens who briefed him on their living and housing requirements.

He ordered Shaikh Hamdan to immediately maintain low-income houses of those citizens and provide decent shelter for every national man and woman.
