Education Ministry prepares new academic calendar for schools

It has decided that the academic year, 2007-2008, will begin on August 26 and end on June 26 next year (excluding nursery levels and grades I to III for which the academic year will end on May 29 next year), which also marks the beginning of summer holidays in both government and private schools.

Members of the administrative and teaching staff will start working on August 19.

For grades IV to XII, the exams at the end of the first semester will be held from December 4 to 13 while the second semester exams will be held from May 18 to May 29 next year, according to the ministry.

Re-tests for grades IV to XII will begin on June 11 next year and end on June 24 while the results will be announced on June 26, the MoE said.

Regarding the mid-year vacation for teaching, administrative and technical staff and students, the ministry said it will begin on December 18 this year and end on January 5 next year.

First semester evaluations for grades IV to XII will be carried out from September to November while that for the second semester will be conducted from February to April.

According to the new calendar, the summer vacation has been reduced to 45 days.
