'Economic growth a key factor in achieving peace'

DUBAI — His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received here yesterday Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is currently visiting the country.

Shaikh Mohammed held talks with Ahmadinejad which covered all aspects to further reinforce ties between the two countries, based on the principles of mutual understanding, respect and benefits.

Also discussed were economic, political and developmental issues, as well as regional and international developments.

Shaikh Mohammed stressed the role of economic and social development as a key factor in achieving peace, stability and peaceful co-existence in the region.

The Iranian president praised the "balanced policies" adopted by the UAE leadership.

'Such wise policies enabled the UAE to achieve development in all aspects of life, and helped create a shining example for others to emulate," he said.

Shaikh Mohammed hosted a dinner banquet in honour of Ahmadinejad.

It was attended by Shaikhs, ministers, dignitaries, the speaker and members of the Federal National Council and senior officials.

Shaikh Mohammed accompanied Ahmadinejad on a tour of different landmarks in Dubai.
