At a ceremony yesterday, EAD officials declared their commitment to implement the Abu Dhabi Environment Strategy for 2008-2012.

Majid Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of EAD, explained that the strategy is based on the Abu Dhabi Government’s policy for 2007-2008, which includes protecting and conserving the environment for the people’s well-being and a better life for all.

The strategy for the next five years focuses on 10 priority areas, including environment sustainability, water resources management, air quality, hazardous materials and waste management, biodiversity management, environmental awareness, environment health and safety management system, organisation efficiency, emergency management and environmental information system.

“With the announcement of this strategy, our responsibilities grow towards planning, development and implementation. Experience has shown that many institutions fail to implement their strategies due to inter-dependence and lack of cooperation between the various members of the strategic decision,” said Al Mansouri.

“We aim towards broader prospects in environmental endeavours, together with our partners in the public, private and civil society institutions. This is in order to realise the vision of the Government of Abu Dhabi to be among the top five governments in the world, through adopting the principles of total quality and building a culture of excellence,” added Al Mansouri.
