DUBAI — Dubai Women’s College (DWC), part of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), has expelled two students of the diploma programme on grounds of misconduct.
The girls — R.S. and B.M. — were expelled on September 30 for their “unprofessional and improper behaviour” on campus, college authorities confirmed. Other students said the two quarrelled verbally over something.
B.M.’s mother, S.D., said the college had been harsh and unfair to the girls and hoped the authorities would change their mind. “There was some misunderstanding between my daughter and the other girl. However, they sorted out the issue themselves. They shouldn’t have been expelled them for a minor issue,” she said.
S.D. said all their pleas with the college administration to rescind the decision had fallen on deaf ears. “No college will accept my daughter now and her future will be ruined,” she said. She said they are also planning to approach higher authorities to get her daughter reinstated in the college.
B.M. was doing her first year Diploma in Business while R.S. was in her final year. Repeated attempts by Khaleej Times to contact R.S. failed.
Confirming the incident, director of DWC Howard Reed: said “Both students were engaged in non-academic misconduct which violated the student conduct laws and regulations of the HCT.” An official statement from the college said a team investigated into the incident and submitted its report to the director, who met with students’ family members and notified them of the decision to dismiss both of them.
