The global gathering is to be attended by 1,500 senior delegates from 90 countries.

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) discussed the arrangements of hosting the conference on Tuesday.

The DTCM Director-General Khalid A. bin Sulayem received the FIATA president, Issa Baluch, and the President of NAFL (National Association of Freight Forwarders) Captain Mansoor Y A Ghafoor, and discussed the arrangements by the department towards hosting FIATA’s annual conference. The meeting was also attended by Director of Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB), Awadh Al Seghayer.

The visitors thanked Bin Sulayem and the DTCM for their support to the NAFL which had put forth the offer for hosting this conference. The UAE was selected from among several strong contenders from around the world, including Egypt and Kenya.

The organising committee praised the facilities which Dubai offers for conferences and exhibitions, especially those involving large numbers of attendees. Baluch praised the role of DTCM in promoting Dubai as a distinguished tourist destination and the role of DCB in attracting such big events to the emirate which in turn played an important role in placing the spotlight on Dubai.

Issa also highlighted the fact that the emirate was chairing the FIATA in 2004 and 2005, which is headquartered in Zurich.

According to Captain Mansoor, “Since the establishment of FIATA in 1926, it has been holding annual meetings in different countries with each country allowed to host the conference only once in 10 years. But Dubai, which played host to the conference in 1999, has once again been selected as a result of the facilities that it offers.”

The conference will discuss issues related to the freight and logistics industry and developments in these fields around the world.

FIATA is a Zurich-based transport related organisation that represents industry involving some 40,000 forwarding companies. FIATA unites the freight forwarding industry worldwide.

Its representatives and the secretariat promote and protect the interests of the industry by participating as advisors or experts in meetings of international bodies dealing with transportation.
