Streets and infrastructure in three cities suffer extensive damage as Israeli forces dig up roads and destroy houses
The DWC itself carries a prize fund of a cool $10m, with the other seven feature races bringing the total cash pot up for grabs to a world-record $27m overall.
With such vast sums at stake, it’s hardly surprising that connections, horses, jockeys and trainers from all around the world are currently in the emirate and ready to race for first place.
Countries such as Australia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, Qatar, Singapore, South Africa and the United States of America will all be represented on the day, giving the occasion a distinctly multinational feel.
The event shall also see history made on two separate fronts, with the first-ever expansion to nine races and the inaugural involvement of two female jockeys (Hayley Turner and Chantal Sutherland) in separate thoroughbred-racing contests, the Al Quoz Sprint (Turner) and the DWC (Sutherland).
