In January 2009, the total number of individuals who entered and exited the country on all types of visas by air, land and sea reached 1.20 million, a very slight change, if compared to the same period last year with 1.26 million travelers in January 2008.

Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director of DNRD, said the department issued 293,745 residency permits during the last quarter of 2008, while only 118,993 residency visas were cancelled in the three-month period.
