Dubai Police shell out over Dh7m to take care of its own

Dubai - Dubai Police chief instructed the force to bear the hotel expenses incurred by the employee whose house was gutted in a fire.

Even as the Department of Human Rights of the Dubai Police provides humanitarian assistance to residents, it makes sure that the force's employees are well looked after, too.
A top official referred to the case of a police employee whose house was gutted in a fire. Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, instructed the force to bear the hotel expenses incurred by the employee till an alternative house could be found for him.
In another case, the department bore the costs of the surgery and treatment required by an employee's wife as she delivered a baby. In yet another case, the department paid Dh350,000 for the treatment of an Arab police employee who had liver disease.
Dr Mohammed Al Murr, Director of the department, said it provided assistance in 1,253 cases in the last 18 months at a total cost of Dh7.26 million.
The department has received 1,420 cases till November 30 this year from low income staff.
The department assisted 73 special needs students since the beginning of the year.
