St Mary's Catholic Church in Dubai has made an announcement in light of the influx of churchgoers that the parish will expect this upcoming Easter weekend.
After the Sunday mass, the church said: "The Dubai Police advise churchgoers not to bring big bags or backpacks from Thursday, March 29 until Sunday, April 1. Bags will be inspected and any unwanted materials will be taken." The announcement was made at the parish as the Holy Week began. It will culminate on Easter Sunday on April 1.
Khaleej Times has learned that the inspections are a routine affair for the Dubai Police during huge gatherings and events to ensure the safety of residents.
A source at St Mary's Church confirmed to Khaleej Times that the police may inspect bags for any unwanted items from Thursday, until Sunday. The church also encouraged Catholics to partake in the Easter celebrations.
