The programme, which is aimed at providing the private medical sector with a direct channel of communication, is conducted every Tuesday and the authority’s health regulation team visits two to three hospitals each week.

“The stakeholder engagement programme is a platform for the private sector to directly communicate with us, give us their feedback as well as raise any concerns that they may have,” said Dr Ramadan Ibrahim, Acting Director of DHA, Health Regulation department.

“Moreover, the consultation programme is also a mechanism for us to provide the private sector an overview of the regulatory work that we undertake so that they can better understand our functions and responsibilities as the healthcare regulatory body for Dubai.”

So far, the health regulation team has visited the Canadian and Welcare Hospitals. Dr Ibrahim said, “The selection of hospitals is based on the number of beds and/or the location.”

He added that the consultation programme is a long-term project which is intended to be implemented from time to time. The department has been liaising with the private and the public sector for over a year now to oversee the completion of the physician relicensing process for Dubai.

Dr Ibrahim said, “With regard to the physician relicensing project, we have captured most of the data in the system. Presently, the primary source verification (PSV) for physicians is underway. Although it is a lengthy process, it is very important because it will help improve the quality of healthcare in the emirate.”
