DUBAI — The Brand Owners Protection Group (BPG) yesterday hailed the 'Dubai Declaration', which advocates a multi-pronged approach to fight counterfeiting and piracy in the Middle East and elsewhere.
The Dubai Declaration, formulated after the fourth Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy, held in Dubai on February 3-5, 2008, has made 25 key recommendations, including cooperation and coordination between Customs, Police and private sector; legislation and enforcement; capacity building; raising awareness; health and safety risks; free trade zones, and transshipment countries.
Welcoming the recommendations of Dubai Declaration, Omar Shteiwi, Chairman of BPG, said the private sector should take the lead to achieve the objectives of the new strategy as laid out in the Dubai Declaration.
