As the rush for Valentine’s Day begins, Dnata Cargo, is using thermal blankets, wireless technology and electronic temperature probes to ensure the flying blooms reach their destination in pristine condition given extreme weather conditions in Dubai.

More than 40 tonnes arrived at the Dubai Flower Centre in the first week of February and figures for this week are likely to be higher, according to a Press release by Dnata yesterday. Kenya is the largest exporter of flowers to Dubai, followed by Holland, Malaysia and Thailand.

Ismail Ali Albanna, executive vice-president, Dnata, said the company’s thermal blankets ensured only one degree Centigrade variance during the handling process on the ground, while temperature probes transmitted directly to computers for constant monitoring.
