Disclosing this, Major Humaid Mohamed Al Ansari, Director of Guards and Inspection Section of General Department of Airports and Security, said the cameras were installed by the police in collaboration with the Dubai Civil Aviation.

He said the department had during the past two years carried out studies about security status of the Airport after monitoring a number of factors including places which witnessed frequent thefts, the number of passengers and employees and current and future expansions.

He said that the police teams in coordination with the Airport staff had decided on the locations of mobile and fixed surveillance cameras.

The security officials have intensified surveillance in reception areas, arrivals and departure halls. The officers and employees were trained to detect the suspected people by observing their body language and suspicious behaviour.

The department has issued permanent and temporary passes to the employees according to the nature of their jobs. No body should sneak through the electronic gates unless they have permission. The department is inspecting 25,000 employees every day who are subject to manual and electronic inspection and search.

He noted that the number of passengers has been increasing by 15 per cent every year and there could be around 40 million passengers by year 2012.
