The department is participating in the three-day exhibition along with 18 co-participants. The visitors are exposed to the emirate's facilities designed for global conferences, business and trade meetings, that can be availed by incentive travellers.

The DTCM Manager Overseas Promotions, Khalifa Ali Buamaim, said the DTCM participation in this specialised event reflects the seriousness of Dubai about becoming the most-sought-after venue for conferences and exhibitions.

"Dubai has successfully hosted a large number of international conferences and exhibitions and is one of the favourite destinations in the list of an incentive traveller. The successful conduct of the annual IMF/World Bank conference last year has attracted many such big names in the MICE sector. This confirms that we are going in a positive direction," he said.

Mr Buamaim said CONFEX 2004 was more than just an exhibition as it provides the industry a forum offering buyers and sellers the opportunity to meet face-to-face over three days, under one roof.

Meanwhile, the number of visitors to Dubai from the UK is constantly on increase, according to Mr Buamaim. "There has been 22 per cent increase in the number of hotel establishment guests from the UK in the third quarter of 2003 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2002. Similarly, the number of UK tour operators featuring Dubai in their itineraries has also increased by 12.34 per cent in the year 2001 compared to 2000," he said.
