Drivers arrested for smuggling diesel from Saudi Arabia, Oman

DUBAI — A large number of drivers of heavy vehicles and minibuses have been caught by Dubai Police for smuggling diesel from Saudi Arabia and Oman into UAE, a senior official told Khaleej Times.

He said that the crackdown on diesel smugglers would be intensified.

Last week, the police learnt that a group of heavy vehicle drivers was planning to sell diesel to some dealers in the border areas.

The police traced the phone calls between the drivers and dealers and caught two Asians.

He said the diesel prices in the neighbouring countries were lesser than in the UAE.

There is no law banning the entry of such commodities, but the drivers are caught for violating the administrative order issued by the municipal authorities in that regard.
