Fahad Shehail, director of the Consumer Protection Department said: “We have spotted a large number of fake products and fake trademarks in some of the shopping centres in Sharjah. However, the shop owners express their ignorance of the fact that these products were fake.”

The official added: “According to the trading law no. 4 for the year 1979 of fighting trading fraud, and the federal law no. 37 for the year 1992 of the trademarks, we have launched a comprehensive campaign to fight trading frauds.”

He warned: “The municipality has given a limited period of time to the traders to discard the fake products, failing which they will be heavily penalised.”
