Senior officials of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the state-of-the-art buses with a seating capacity of 81 would be able to accommodate 114 passengers.

“We plan to increase the number of double-decker buses to 150 by the end of September next year. The first lot would start plying from February,” said an official of the Public Transport Agency.

The agency is already working on a ‘Bus Master Plan’ in a bid to ensure better services to the commuters.

Essa Al Dossari, CEO of Public Transport Agency said the master plan would aim at providing rapid and secure mobility services.

“In addition to this, the development of public transport network, improvement of operating efficiency and effectiveness, provision of appropriate infrastructure, study of fares structure currently applied and development of the quality of the public data are also being looked into,” he said.
