DUBAI - The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance yesterday sentenced an Egyptian physician to three months in jail for molesting a woman patient at his clinic.
The panel of judges presided by Judge Fahmi Mounir also sentenced J.D., 45, to paying a provisional compensation of Dh21,000 and deportation after serving the jail term.
The case has been referred to the civil court as the victim has claimed compensation.
All along the trial, the physician had denied molesting the Scottish saleswoman, C.B., 31, while examining her in his private clinic in Mankhool area on March 6 this year. He had alleged that C.B. made up the whole story because he refused to give her drugs.
The victim had said in her testimony that the doctor tried to kiss her twice and groped her when he was examining her. She had gone to the clinic alone.
Defence counsel Jassem Naqabi said yesterday that he would appeal the verdict.
The evidence handed over to the court included the doctor's mobile phone, which had stored photos and video records of women being examined in his clinic.
J.D. was the accused in similar cases earlier too. One dates back to 1999 when he was charged with molesting a woman patient in Rashid Hospital. In another case in 2006, he allegedly posed as a gynaecologist and sexually harassed a woman patient. He was also alleged to have taken pictures of a woman patient with his mobile phone while she was lying on the clinical bed.
