Instituted under the patronage of Shaikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and President of Dubai Ladies Club, the competition has been conceived to promote the artists of tomorrow.

The competition is intended to provide the unknown artists an opportunity to exhibit their creative talent. The Young Artist Awards recognise UAE artists of a relatively young age who have demonstrated exceptional artistic promise within their discipline but who have not yet achieved national exposure and acclaim. The awards were designed to assist in promoting the careers of those selected.

The competition will help create greater awareness of the UAE's artistic heritage and specifically promote interest in local, contemporary art.

Funding of a competition like this represents one of the best possible means of recognising and developing the exceptional creative talent currently manifesting itself in young UAE art. This competition is also an initiative to encourage sponsorship of the arts by the business sector, and to promote sustainable business-arts partnerships that will, in the long term benefit the community at large.

This is an attempt to secure the future development of the arts industry through increased corporate sector involvement.

The competition is open to emerging artists of 18 years and older, who have not yet had a solo exhibition. Artists are invited to submit one or two sample artworks.

An official competition catalogue will also be printed and distributed.

A selection committee will select the final works for the Young Artists Award Exhibition, which will be hosted at the Dubai Ladies Club Art & Talent Centre.

The competition will be divided into three categories: Two Dimensional Artworks, incorporating drawing, photography and all types of painting.

Three Dimensional Artworks, including sculptures and installations, and New Media, comprising videos and electronic applications.

Entry forms will be available at the DLC Art & Talent Centre and will be distributed to all other art related institutions (Cultural Council, DIAC, universities, colleges and galleries).

Submissions will be open until the end of October, the installation, the selection and judging will take place during November and the official opening and Award Ceremony will take place during December.
