Disruption in SMS linked to Etisalat 181

DUBAI — The Short Message Service (SMS) connected to Etisalat enquiry service on 181 was yesterday disrupted temporarily causing inconvenience to a large number of users, specially those using the service while commuting on the UAE roads.

Users complained that Etisalat's 181 service was unable to SMS the requested telephone numbers in the morning yesterday. “The contact centre operator expressed inabiity to SMS the requested telephone number by users on the mobile phone because of a technical problem. Instead, the operator suggested they could only give the enquired telephone numbers verbally over the phone,” users disclosed.

An Etisalat spokesperson admitted the fault caused due to temporary breakdown in the system . “The problem was in the automotive voice response unit which messages the phone numbers to the user. It happened around 10 am and lasted briefly for 15 minutes,” the spokesperson said, adding, the fault was rectified immediately and the messaging service was restored.
