The club, which was launched last month is the brainchild of former Pakistan ambassador Javed Malik, who also publishes the International Diplomat magazine to bring together the diplomatic and corporate communities.

Malik said the idea was first floated to connect readers of the magazine, but after discussions it was expanded further in line with the philosophy of expanding goodwill and friendship between people and countries.

‘‘I am thankful to the dean of the consular corps, Youhannes Tecelmichael, for his advice and support,’’ Malik said.

The club will be guided by his leadership, as well as other diplomats and business leaders who are joining the Board of Advisers, Malik said.

The Diplomat Business Club was launched on March 6 in the presence of the Dean of the Consular Corps, and fourteen Consuls-general representing France, Canada, The Netherlands, Russia, Turkey, Malaysia, Iraq, Sudan, Palestine, Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia, Sudan and Afghanistan to provide a platform that connects people, communities and countries.

With this in mind, the club has partnered with various business councils as well as events and conferences to ensure that the diplomats play a more active role in engaging with business events thereby adding an international dimension to corporate activity in the UAE.

Consul-General of Saudi Arabia Emad Madani said: “I was very happy to hear that the Diplomat Magazine has launched UAE’s first Diplomatic Business Club. It is a wonderful idea to have such a body that brings together diplomats and business leaders.’’

The board of advisers will be expanded to cover all geographical regions, said Youhannes Tecelmichael, Consul-General of Eritrea. Details of the club can be found on www.thediplomatclubuae.com
