Addressing the opening session of the four-day conference, Hamad Abdul Rahman Al Midfa, Minister of Health said the UAE, under the visionary leadership of the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, has made great strides in the field of health, in providing distinguished and high quality medical services to its citizens.

He said the ministry has exerted all possible efforts to provide the country's hospitals and health institutions with the latest technology in diagnostic imaging, to upgrade the standard of the health service. "An example of these achievements, has been shown by the recent honouring of the Central Radiology Department at the ministry by the award for the best performance in the Middle East", said Mr Midfa.

He said diagnostic imaging, has become a cornerstone in medicine because of its capability of early detection of diseases, which is crucial for taking the right medication.

The role of radiology is not restricted to appropriate and accurate diagnosis for diseases using ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear radiation, or therapeutic purposes, but also has a monitoring role in critical surgeries and maladies, said Mr Midfa. Meanwhile, an exhibition showcasing the most advanced imaging technologies was organised on Sunday on the sidelines of the conference.
