The conference secretariat at the college will be hosting the conference in joint collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Emirates Medical Association. About 250 doctors and healthcare professionals from the UAE are expected to participate where leading experts in the field of management and control of diabetes will deliver lectures.

"We are deeply concerned about this issue," says Mr Madani, adding that lifestyle and food habits are the main causes. Awareness at every level is important to tackle the problem. The national committee for control of diabetes in the UAE is working towards controlling diabetes. The Ministry of Heath is working towards taking all possible measures in addressing this issue, he added.

Other experts feel that it is an individual responsibility of people at all levels.
