Eng. Abdullah Al Junaibi, director of Public Services Section, Abu Dhabi Municipality, said 188 contracts valued at Dh4 billion were signed in 2006.
Among the projects were eight roads sector works, 33 public gardens, 12 buildings, six drilling works, 86 maintenance and 43 other activities.
"The highest contract in terms of value (Dh600 million) was for afforestation, parks and maintenance, followed by a contract for management of the central market and gold market at Dh340 million. An estimated Dh320 million would be spent on solid waste management and cleaning projects, he added.
In January 2007 alone, 21 contracts worth Dh469.1 million were signed. February saw the signing of contracts worth Dh429.1 million of which Dh194.1 million were earmarked for internal road networks at Mohammed bin Zayed City and Dh123.7 million were allocated for surface sewerage networks at Bani Yas, Al Wathba and Nahda.
Al Junaibi added that these contracts reflected the magnitude of urban development taking place in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
