Abdulwahed was ordered to pay the court expenses and Dh3,000 as lawyer charges, and his petition to involve the banks as litigators in the suit was rejected.
The case unfolded when the Bin Shaib Factory owned by Abdulwahed filed a lawsuit against the Arab Orient Insurance Company, demanding the payment of Dh81,490,358, and interests due to the financial damages he incurred after the destruction of his factory in a big fire.
The Dubai Court of First Instance ordered the insurance company to pay Dh59 million. Both Abdulwahed and Sameer Gafar, the insurance company lawyer, contested the verdict before the Dubai Court of Appeal, which dismissed their pleas and upheld the judgment of the lower court.
Both litigants, however, approached the Supreme Federal Court, claiming that the previous verdict was void.
The Dubai Court of Cassation halted the payment of the money deposited by the company in the court treasury till the litigation is brought to a conclusion, and referred the suit to the Court of Appeal to look into anew.
